Spring Has Sprung

When I think about spring I think of longer, warmer days and the feeling that we are all coming out of winter "hibernation." Everything comes back to life – trees and flowers begin to bud, birds are chirping and the sun lingers longer. There has never been a spring in my lifetime, likely any of our lifetimes, where the feeling of rebirth and awakening from winter's slumber feels so literal.

Springwell's Covid-19 vaccine clinics have concluded for residents and staff and, this month, indoor visitation resumed for the first time since mid-October at the Main/Overlook Building. As a community, Springwell is excited for expanded guest visitation and the opportunity for residents to interact with more frequency in the dining room and increased group activities. Of course, precautions are still in place as we follow all guidelines from the State of Maryland's Department of Health, but we are all feeling optimistic as we enter a new season, both literally and figuratively.

I also want to wish our residents, staff and their families a Happy Passover and Easter, and will leave you with a couple reflections from Rabbi Karp and Father Neil:

Rabbi Karp: “This year of the pandemic has taught me lessons of tragedy vs. human resilience and that family and good friends are the bottom line.”

Father Neil: “Covid is heartbreakingly sad, but it has called out the best of what makes us human. Tens of thousands of people have summoned courage and compassion to take care of the sick and hurting. We will never be able to take for granted the many gifts we have been bestowed.”
