The Addition of the Two Wings

‍The first major renovation to the building was in 1961 when ground was broke for the addition of two wings with flat roofs costing approximately $500,000. The completed additions were dedicated on July 17, 1962. At that time there were 142 family members and a waiting list of over 100!

The program from the Dedication Service of the new wings in 1962.[/caption]In July of 1977 the waiting list for admissions into The Wesley Home contained more than 80 names and the Board of Trustees proposed expanding the Home by 60 rooms. The cornerstone for the new Annex, now called The Overlook was laid in 1979 and the building was completed in June of 1981.

Modernization of the main building and upgrades to the Annex began in 1994. The renovations included private baths for all the residents, kitchenettes and bright, cheerful sitting rooms. Two terrace level patios were added for outdoor recreation.Our fifth and final post wrapping up the history of Springwell will be coming soon!
