Homestead Residents Give Back for Springwell's Staff Appreciation Fund Springwell

Homestead residents Vera Hall and Helen Shifflett share a special bond. The pair are avid - and talented – quilters and recently teamed up once more to make a "scrappy quilt" - a one-of-a-kind quilt using leftover fabrics with a variety of patterns and colors.

Several months ago, Vera and Helen sewed hundreds of masks for residents and staff. In another act of selflessness, the "scrappy quilt" was created to be raffled off to benefit Springwell's Staff Appreciation Fund. Over the course of several weeks, the ladies would meet to piece together the squares until the quilt was finally completed. Both knew that they wanted to give back to the team at Springwell to thank them for the endless support they have provided residents throughout a challenging 2020.

"What an amazing thing Vera and Helen have done in their creation of this beautiful piece of art," said Phil Golden, Executive Director at Springwell. "Our staff and residents always love to watch them collaborate on each new project and see what they ultimately create; they are so passionate and talented. It is such a wonderful gesture for them to give back in this way, too."

The quilt's raffle brought in $300 and the Staff Appreciation Fund, which wrapped on January 18th, raised $50,000 to support Springwell Senior Living's frontline staff. For the first time in its 10 year history, the Fund accepted contributions over the summer as well, raising more than $30,000, bringing the 2020 Fund to $80,000 - the highest amount since the Fund's inception.
