Extraordinary circumstances with Extraordinary people!

It’s been a rewarding weekend here in riding out the largest snowstorm in Baltimore’s history.  Our team started planning on Tuesday when it became apparent that the forecasters were on to something real with this blizzard prediction.  The generator’s fuel was topped off, pharmacy orders were arranged in advance, dining service plans  were reviewed, air mattresses & extra blankets for overnight staff were purchased and transportation options were lined up.

Planning is important but the rewarding part of the weekend was seeing so many members of our team sacrifice and execute together on the priority of resident service.  On Friday night, 15 staff members slept over to make sure our care & hospitality services didn’t miss a beat on Saturday when the worst of the storm was slated to hit.  Several reinforcements arrived very early on their own, others were shuttled in courtesy of Donald Actie’s awesome Chevy Silverado!  The atmosphere on Saturday was much less of a crisis and more like a special event.  The residents seemed to really be enjoying themselves and were well looked after.

The snowfall was impressive but with Ronny Gray on snow blower, James Applefeld and John Clark on shovels and our snowplow firm making regular visits, driveways and sidewalks were kept clear in the event of an emergency.  Thankfully one blown satellite TV antenna and a fender bender have been the only “major” issues.

While there are some tired folks around here I’m pleased to say that the staff has done a fantastic job in a difficult situation.  And, with surrounding roads clearing up we can see a return to normal tomorrow.  As we say, “There’s Always Something Happening at Springwell” – while the snow was extraordinary and challenging, this weekend’s teamwork was also a noteworthy Happening and much more of a pleasure to see.
