Congratulations to our Employees of the Quarter!
On April 20th, Executive Director Phil Golden announced Springwell’s first-ever Employees of the Quarter to a group of 35 staff members gathered for a Town Hall meeting. This new recognition program came about as a result of the Resident Suggestion Box in January. In fact, each winner was nominated by at least a pair of residents or their family members.
Supervisors, who are not eligible for the awards, collaborated to select 3 winners from among the many nominees on Springwell’s staff who do wonderful things on a daily basis to serve our residents and uphold our mission. In selecting the recipients, the deciding factors were resident/family input and supervisor consensus on which nominees best embodied the Springwell mission from January 1st through March 31st.This quarter’s winners represented a number of different “departments” with the common thread that they are all warm, friendly folks who are extremely good examples of striving for consistently outstanding hospitality and care services. Each one received a $50 gift card and a new Springwell chair - - to relax in when they’re not hard at work. The winners were:
Jean Bonds, Concierge – nominated by both Nell Crawford & Ethna Hopper - to quote one resident, “Jean never says no; she has the answer or is willing to find it, she is always unfailingly kind even when there are several things going on at the same time at the Front Desk”. “Jean exemplifies caring and compassion,” said another and her supervisors appreciate that when she identifies a problem she always comes with good suggestions for a solution.
Anna Carter, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – was nominated by Mrs. Hill’s daughter and the Halls’ niece who both said, “when Anna is on duty, I know everything will be fine; she has a great attitude and can deal with anything that comes up”. She was also recognized by another department’s Supervisor for her excellent teamwork.
Maurice Ashton – Transportation / Activities – was nominated by Ed Ports and Harriet Gold. Maurice is a goodwill ambassador for Springwell in his travels throughout Baltimore as our primary Driver but he has cross-trained to help out with Activities when not out on the road. Maurice recently nominated Springwell for a charitable contribution from the AME Church. Phil commented, “I thought it was nice of him to do but didn’t really hold out much hope for it – that is until he asked me to attend a breakfast with the Bishop in April to receive a $3,000 donation to help fund the construction of Memory Boxes for our Gardens Pavilion residents! It was a very moving experience for Springwell to be recognized in that way.”Congratulations to the first quarter’s recipients! And, thank you to residents who came up with this idea and submitted nominations. We are accepting them through the Suggestion Box in the Main Lobby for the second quarter, which will be announced at the Staff Town Hall in July.
