Meet the Team
PHIL GOLDEN Executive Director / Principal

Phil is an owner of Springwell who has served as its Executive Director for eleven years. Along with an outstanding management team, Phil focuses on assuring that Springwell is a safe, warm and vibrant place to live, with consistently outstanding services and highly engaged staff members. He has 32 years of experience in the operations and development of senior living communities. Phil has previously served as a Principal and President of a regional senior living company that grew from a start-up to 16 communities during his tenure. He has presented at both state and national conferences and his interests in senior living led him to become a Lead Instructor for eight years at UMBC’s Erickson School Executive Education Program. He has also served for ten years as a Board Member for LifeSpan – one of Maryland’s leading industry associations.

Kim Kennedy Community Sales Director

Kim has been with Springwell since 2012 and is responsible for sales and marketing. Prior to joining our team, her mother-in-law was a resident, providing her with a unique perspective when talking to families and potential residents. Along with her sales partner Nina, Kim provides information about the housing and services available at Springwell, discusses community life, and reviews financial options. When necessary, she can also provide information on other community resources. Kim feels strongly that it is crucial to find a community that is a fit in terms of care, lifestyle and finances, and values her strong relationships within the industry.

Nina Heckman Community Sales Director

Nina joined the Springwell team nine years ago, opting to become a senior living professional after a successful career in advertising. As Community Sales Director, Nina, along with her sales partner Kim, educates potential residents and their families about the many living options available to them, keeps them up to date about changes within the industry and helps them make the best-informed decision about finding the right home for themselves or their loved ones.

Heather Entwistle Activities Director

Heather joined the Springwell team in 2014 as an assistant and seamlessly transitioned into the position of Director just a year later. A longtime residential real estate professional, she devoted her spare time for many years to serving veterans at the VA Rehabilitation Center in Baltimore and volunteering at the Bykota Senior Center in Towson. She has a profound respect for this generation. Heather has assembled a fantastic team who bring energy, creativity and fresh ideas to the Activities program daily. Her genuine affection for our residents encourages a community culture of love and support.

Susan Denning, RN Director of Nursing / Assisted Living Manager

Susan will be responsible for the supervision of patient care in Springwell’s Assisted Living Community. Denning, a registered nurse since 2004, has more than 20 years of nursing and social work experience in both retirement communities and medical centers. She has served as the director of nursing at Edenwald Retirement Community and as an RN at St. Joseph Medical Center and Oak Crest Village Retirement Community.

Elaine Yozsa, RN Delegating Nurse / Case Manager

Elaine joined Springwell in 2015 after a long, successful career in critical care settings. Her experience included eight years as a Senior Partner at the University of Maryland’s Medical ICU. She was drawn to senior living to help provide a safe, homelike environment for residents and a trusting relationship with their families as well. Elaine performs assessments of Assisted Living and Memory Care residents every 45 days, which form the basis for their individualized service plans. As Delegating RN, she oversees our medication management staff and helps provide caregivers with the tools to perform their jobs with skill and compassion.

Christy Miller LPN, Memory Care Manager

Christy Miller, LPN, has more than 20 years of experience in senior care – initially as a Recreational Therapist, followed by a decade in nursing as a Charge Nurse, Unit Manager and Physician Liaison. Her experience in both Nursing and Activities is an outstanding combination for our Memory Care program. Christy & the team of Nursing Assistants, Medication Technicians, Activities Assistants, Housekeepers and Dining Assistants ensure that the Memory Care program’s daily rhythms are always engaging, and our residents’ needs are met physically and emotionally. In addition to being a License Practical Nurse, Christy holds a BS in Recreation & Leisure Administration with Emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation.

Aaron Mayer Campus Dining Services Director

As the Campus Dining Services Director, Aaron is responsible for all food service operations on the Springwell Campus. This includes two Assisted Living Dining Rooms, Memory Care Dining, the Terrace Bistro Café, and the restaurant and pub located in The Homestead. Additionally, Aaron and his team of chefs will be managing on-campus private events and catering. He works to continuously elevate the quality of our dishes and strive for world-class customer service for our residents. A graduate of Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, with a degree in Culinary Arts and Clinical Nutrition, Aaron has a well-rounded understanding of food service operations and quality service. His experience has been balanced in fine dining establishments, corporate food service operations and various senior living communities. He joined Springwell in 2019.

Gerard Campbell Chef Manager/ The Homestead

Gerard was named Chef Manager of The Homestead in 2018. A former executive chef at Miss Shirley’s on Pratt Street and in Roland Park, Gerard is in charge of the upscale dining program for residents. Before joining The Homestead, he also served as sous chef at the Tremont Hotel and Hyatt Baltimore. He graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree from Baltimore International Culinary College. Gerard loves being a part of the Springwell community and having the opportunity to be creative in the kitchen. Residents rave about his innovative and delicious freshly prepared meals.

Kermit Griffin Chef Manager, Main Building

Kermit joined Springwell in 2020 as Chef Manager for our Main/Overlook building. This includes the Sherwood and Beechtree Assisted Living Dining Rooms, the Terrace Bistro Café and the Memory Care Dining Program. Kermit has appeared on Food Network and was Executive Chef at the prestigious Beaufort Inn (Conde Nast Top 10 Inns in America) and earned a James Beard DiRoNA award (Distinguished Restaurants of North America). A graduate of University of South Carolina, Kermit is also involved with Living Classrooms where he created a Culinary Arts Program and “graduated” nearly 50 students earning their Professional Food Safety Manager Certification.

Inez K. Hayes Human Resources Director

Inez has more than 12 years of administrative and business management experience. She is responsible for managing all aspects of the Human Resources office, including payroll and other employee services. Inez provides guidance, leadership and training to other employees while planning and administering policies that promote a positive attitude toward company goals, making Springwell a safe, warm and vibrant place for our residents to live.

Rubi Miranda is the Business Office Director and has been with Springwell Senior Living since 2008. Rubi is committed to providing a high quality customer service experience for residents and family members as well as accurate financial information for the organization. She is a team player who coordinates with many departments at Springwell and contributes daily to the goals and mission of the community.

Rick Altland Physical Plant Director

Rick Altland joined Springwell in its infancy back in 2008 and has helped transform our unique campus in Mt. Washington to what it is today. Having a residential building and management background, he has been instrumental in the remodeling, modernization and beautification of the entire community. Though his main responsibility is overseeing the Maintenance, Housekeeping and Security departments, Rick enjoys engaging with residents on his rounds and sharing a little humor and cheer with them throughout the day.

Donnie Neal Director of Housekeeping

Donnie brings more than 20 years of experience in housekeeping and hospitality to Springwell. A Certified Infection Control Specialist with a passion for healthcare and hospitality, Donnie served as the Executive Housekeeper for The Jefferson Hotel, a 5-star hotel in Washington D.C., and the Director of Housekeeping Hospitality Services at the naval hospital in Camp Lejune, where he created the “Hospitel,” giving the hotel hospitality experience in a healthcare setting. Donnie has a master's degree in Psychology and joined the Springwell team in February 2020.

Edie Johnson Security Director

Edie has worked in senior living here in Mt. Washington for more than 30 years. With a background in both Housekeeping and Security, she is always concerned about the appearance of the building along with its safety and that of the staff and residents. She takes special pride in ensuring the residents live in a safe environment, but also that they enjoy their home here at Springwell.
